Watch the Video: Discover the Opportunities in Electronics Manufacturing
This short film premiered at Jobs for the Future (JFF) Horizons and highlights how awareness, education, and workforce pathways can connect the next generation to meaningful careers in electronics manufacturing.
When people hear the words "electronics manufacturing," they often don't picture innovation. They don't think about the technology enabling lifesaving medical devices, space exploration, artificial intelligence, or the products we rely on every day. And they certainly don't picture themselves building a career in this industry.
That's exactly why we commissioned this video. This week, we debuted it at JFF Horizons because we wanted to tell a different story, one that reflects the reality of today's electronics industry and the incredible opportunities it offers.
The workforce challenge facing our industry isn't simply that we need more skilled people. It's that too many talented people never consider electronics manufacturing in the first place because they don't know what it is, what it does, or how they can become part of it.
This video was created to change that. Rather than leading with statistics about workforce shortages or job openings, we wanted viewers to see the impact of our industry through a different lens. Electronics make modern life possible. They power the technologies that connect us, improve healthcare, advance scientific discovery, strengthen national security, and fuel innovation across nearly every sector of the economy.
Behind every one of those innovations are people. The students featured in this film represent something we see every day. Bright, capable people who are looking for meaningful careers often don't realize that electronics manufacturing offers exactly what they're searching for: hands-on work, cutting-edge technology, opportunities to grow, and the chance to make a real difference.
One student talks about discovering a field with far more opportunities than expected. Another reflects on finding a career that aligns with both personal interests and long-term goals. Together, their stories remind us that awareness is often the biggest barrier, not ability.
That's why this film matters. I see it as a conversation starter. We hope educators will share it with students exploring career options. We hope parents will watch it and see that manufacturing today bears little resemblance to outdated stereotypes. We hope employers will recognize the importance of investing in workforce pathways. And we hope policymakers and workforce leaders will see the value of continuing to build partnerships that connect talent with opportunity.
Most of all, we hope someone watches this video and thinks, "I never knew this career existed—but I could see myself doing this." If that happens, we've accomplished what we set out to do.
Changing perceptions is the first step toward building the workforce our industry needs. And sometimes, the most powerful way to change perceptions isn't through data or presentations; it's through stories that help people see what's possible.
I hope you'll watch the video and then share it. Every new viewer is another opportunity to introduce someone to an industry that's shaping the future and looking for the people who will build it.
