Why “Always-On” BMS Electronics Demand a New Reliability Approach
Battery management systems (BMS) are critical to the safety, performance, and longevity of electric vehicle battery packs, but today’s higher-voltage, always-on systems introduce reliability challenges that traditional qualification methods may not fully capture. This white paper examines how continuous electrical bias, 800–1200 V architectures, heat, humidity, contamination, vibration, and long service lives can affect BMS electronics over time. It also explores gaps between existing standards and real-world operating conditions and identifies opportunities for more life-based, system-level reliability testing.
